Welcome to the intersection of heritage and vision, creating in Collingwood.

Creating in Collingwood

Collingwood is more than a postcode. It’s a mindset. In this pocket of Melbourne, creativity flows through warehouse walls, down graffiti-laced laneways and across everyone that walks its streets. It’s here that ideas are challenged, materials are rethought and art lives and breathes in the everyday. From local artisans to global collaborators, Collingwood is a canvas for experimentation, the perfect backdrop to reimagine what fabric can do.

At Warwick, we move with that creative energy, where we shape timeless design through consistency, curiosity and a deep understanding of what truly lasts. Desa is an example of this where the purity of a raw material has been woven into a bold tribute to the legacy of tapestry.

Long considered a luxury form of weaving, tapestry can find its place in contemporary interiors where Desa’s imperial jungle motifs, entwine with ancient geometries in a sophisticated revival of old-world grandeur.

It’s intricate. It’s tactile. It’s unapologetically layered.

This is where Warwick reclaims tapestry not as a relic, but as a relevant, refined artform, made attainable for modern living.

A bold and beautiful transformation told through a visual narrative that traces the journey of yarn from formless fibre to intricate textile.

As part of a collaboration with Hygge Studio, the Collingwood Warwick showroom has been transformed with a beautiful installation using a visual narrative that traces the journey of yarn from formless fibre to intricate textile. Desa has been deconstructed and reconstructed, representing its origins and its future, a celebration of both the raw essence and boundless potential of material in its purest form. The installation honours the tactile beginnings of fabric, offering a poetic interplay between traditional processes and future possibilities.

Hygge comments "As creatives we love to work with our hands, blending spatial design with artistry. The goal being to create an immersive, tactile experience.

It was a joy to work with the Desa fabric—it held its shape beautifully, responded well to manipulation and gave the space a warm, textural richness that grounded the concept. This project was not only a creative challenge but a celebration of contemporary craftsmanship.

The result was a soft, sculptural enclosure that invited people in and encouraged them to engage more intimately with the materials.

A key feature was our exploration of the weave itself—we selectively deconstructed edges of the fabric to expose the structure beneath, celebrating the complexity and integrity of the material."

Included in the installation is an antique, 16 shaft loom in which a decorative fabric will be woven by each person visiting the Collingwood showroom where it will tell a continuous story of individual intrigue. Jess, Design Manager at Warwick, used this loom when she was studying textile design and as she explains “it’s a little unwieldy, but beautifully crafted with timber and solid metal heddles, features rarely seen in modern equivalents. I fell in love with its craftsmanship and character”

A purchase from her university as they began selling off their older looms to make way for the newer more streamlined models, Jess jumped at the chance to buy one. She says it was a bargain for $100, and it felt like the preservation of a piece of history.

As each strand of raw material will be passed back and forth, different hands will bring their own rhythm and perspective to this loom. It’s especially meaningful for Jess to share it with others during the installation and let them experience the joy of weaving firsthand.

With every contribution to the loom, a new layer of expression will be added, weaving together a rich tapestry of individual experiences. Over time, a shared story will emerge while proudly sitting alongside the Desa tapestry filled with history and ideas: they are a collaboration of art, created in Collingwood.

Join us in the Collingwood showroom and experience the loom for yourself, on display from May 15 to June 11.
