Reintroducing Thomas Maxwell Leather

With over 60 years of history, Thomas Maxwell leather remains synonymous with quality, longevity, and timeless appeal. Reintroduced with a fresh perspective, we’re not launching something new, we’re celebrating what has always set Thomas Maxwell apart: beautifully crafted leather designed to elevate upholstery projects, now presented in a more contemporary light.

A Legacy Built on Family and Craft

The Thomas Maxwell brand has deep roots within the Warwick family. Named after the company’s founders, Thomas and his brother Max, the brand represents a multi-generational commitment to quality, value, and service. If you look closely at the Thomas Maxwell logo, you’ll spot subtle family symbolism: a label for the first son, and a crescent for the second.

Built on decades of trust and craftsmanship, Thomas Maxwell is not about trends, it’s about timelessness.

An Investment in Quality and Comfort

Choosing Thomas Maxwell leather is about more than aesthetics, it's about making an investment in comfort, performance, and long-term value. Specialising in premium Italian-tanned leathers, each product in the Thomas Maxwell collection is carefully selected for designers, upholsterers, and specifiers who value material integrity and long-lasting appeal.

All hides are A-grade, European-sourced, and tanned in Italy then shipped on rolls, never folded, ensuring crease-free, workshop-ready hides from day one.

All A-grade European hides are Italian-tanned and shipped rolled, not folded, for crease-free, workshop-ready leather from day one.

Leather Types Made Simple

Leather can seem overwhelming with its many names and finishes, but really, there are just four core types: Nubuck, Full Aniline, Semi Aniline and Corrected Grain.

Full Aniline

Full aniline leather is the most authentic expression of leather, aniline dyed throughout, with no surface pigments to hide the hide’s natural markings. Only the top 2% of hides qualify for this level of craftsmanship.

Langham: The Langham range is a full aniline surface grain leather with a wax pull up effect which will enhance with age. At home in both classic and contemporary spaces, the hides have been tumbled and infused with oil to give them a lovely soft handle making it perfect for buttoning or more intricate work.

London Club: London Club is a surface grain lightly buffed leather selection, finished with a vintage waxed pull up effect. Its unique antique appearance will be enhanced with age. Much like a leather footy, it breaks in over time and develops a beautiful patina that’s unique to its owner. Recommended for use in both heavy domestic and general commercial applications.

If full aniline were a fabric, it would be like 100% linen. Natural, breathable, and full of character.

Semi Aniline - Lavelle

Semi aniline leather offers the best of both worlds: the natural character of full aniline, with a subtle layer of pigment for added durability and colour consistency. This makes it perfect for those who want authenticity with a touch of practicality.

Think of semi aniline as a fabric blend, part natural, part performance.

Corrected Grain – La Casa

La Casa is our most robust and versatile leather, designed for high-use environments, from commercial spaces to everyday family living. Fully pigmented and embossed, it provides a consistent surface texture and the highest level of protection without sacrificing softness.

Named after the Italian word for “home,” La Casa is designed to be your everyday go-to leather. It’s where comfort, resilience, and value meet.

What sets La Casa apart from other leather lines is its noticeable softness in a quality that meets heavy commercial standards.

Designed for Makers, Crafted for Life

Thomas Maxwell leathers are thoughtfully developed with makers in mind, bringing together quality, practicality, and performance to support exceptional craftsmanship at every stage.

From a practical standpoint, our leathers are produced to maximise ease of use and cutting efficiency. Each hide is carefully selected to minimise imperfections, free from excessive scarring and entirely unbranded, ensuring a cleaner, more usable surface area for upholsterers. With high-yield hides averaging around 5 square metres, and some reaching up to 7 square metres, our leathers offer outstanding value without compromising on quality.

To make ordering simple, we take care of the technical details. Provide your fabric meterage and we’ll do the conversion for you: as a guide, 1 lineal metre of fabric is equivalent to approximately 1.6m² of leather, or 1.8m² for lower-yield options. It’s our way of making the process seamless, so you can focus on the craft.

London Club's unique antique appearance will be enhanced with age.

Bringing Leather to Life: Collaborating with Local Makers

Sam from Finn Furniture is an Australian maker celebrated for his traditional craftsmanship, simple forms, and refined detailing. His dining chair, upholstered in Langham Chestnut, a full aniline leather known for its buttery-soft hand and rich, natural finish, embodies his timeless creativity and honest construction.

Sam’s signature approach combines classic joinery techniques with clean, contemporary lines. The Langham leather brings depth, warmth, and soul to the piece. The result is a chair that feels both grounded and elevated, an heirloom-quality design that honours the character of the material.

Isaac Francis of IEFrancis, a designer known for his refined work with leather, lighting and small goods, brought a completely different perspective.

Using La Casa, our corrected grain leather with exceptional durability, Isaac created a striking leather pendant light, a piece that transforms utility into art. With his background in leathercraft and minimalist design, Isaac pushed the boundaries of what leather can do, proving that it’s not just for upholstery but can also play a starring role in functional design.

These collaborations are a testament to what’s possible when skilled hands meet quality materials. More than just products, they’re expressions of how Thomas Maxwell leather can shape spaces, adding depth, tactility, and story.
