OnGuard Explained
Advanced Fabric Protection for Everyday Living
The way we live at home has changed. Lounge rooms have evolved into open-plan living spaces that serve multiple purposes throughout the day, from working and relaxing to entertaining, family time and play. With more life happening around our furniture, performance has become just as important as appearance.
Advances in textile technology are making it easier to choose beautiful fabrics that can also stand up to the demands of everyday living. Designed for modern interiors, OnGuard combines stain protection and liquid repellency with medical-grade antimicrobial technology to help keep upholstery cleaner, healthier and looking its best for longer.
What Is OnGuard?
OnGuard is an advanced fabric protection treatment available on most Warwick and Linia upholstery fabrics.
It combines two important forms of protection:
- Liquid repellent technology to help protect against everyday spills and stains.
- Medical-grade antimicrobial protection that helps inhibit bacteria and microbes that can thrive on upholstered furniture.
The treatment is water-based and free from PFOA and PFOS chemicals, providing advanced protection through a more considered approach to fabric treatment.
OnGuard technology is certified by OEKO-TEX®, bluesign® and EPA USA, providing added assurance around the technology behind its performance.
Most importantly, OnGuard gives you the freedom to choose from an extensive range of Warwick and Linia fabrics without having to compromise between design and everyday performance.
How Does OnGuard Protect Fabric?
Unlike treatments that simply sit on the surface, OnGuard encapsulates individual fibres throughout the fabric construction, creating a protective barrier around the yarn.
When liquid comes into contact with treated upholstery, this barrier helps it bead on the surface rather than immediately soaking into the fabric. This gives you valuable time to absorb and remove the spill, while also reducing the chance of liquid penetrating through to the upholstery foam beneath.
Because the protection extends throughout the fabric rather than acting only as a topical surface treatment, OnGuard becomes part of the treated textile for longer-lasting performance that won't simply wash away.
How OnGuard Is Applied to Fabric
OnGuard is applied by fully immersing the fabric in the treatment solution before passing it through rollers to ensure every fibre is thoroughly impregnated. The fabric is then dried and heat cured, permanently bonding the stain-repellent and antimicrobial technology throughout the fabric construction.
Protection Without PFOA or PFOS
OnGuard is free from PFOA and PFOS, chemicals that belong to the broader PFAS family and are commonly referred to as ‘forever chemicals’ due to their persistence in the environment.
By combining high-performance protection with a water-based treatment free from PFOA and PFOS, OnGuard provides a more considered approach to protecting upholstered furniture.
Caring for OnGuard-Treated Fabric
One of the key benefits of OnGuard is making everyday spills easier to manage. Acting quickly will always give you the best chance of removing a spill before it becomes a stain.
1: Absorb the spill immediately. Use an absorbent towel to soak up as much liquid as possible.
Tip: Fold a sheet of paper towel and press the corner gently into the spill. Watch as it draws the liquid up and away from the fabric.
2: Blot away excess moisture. Gently dab the area with a clean white cloth. Avoid rubbing the spill further into the fabric.
3: Add water. Spray a small amount of water onto the affected area.
4: Use soap. Gently apply a small amount of white household soap.
5: Work gently. Dab in light circular motions to help lift the stain. Never scrub the fabric aggressively.
6: Air dry naturally. Leave the area to dry naturally and avoid applying direct heat, as this can damage the fabric.
Long-Lasting Fabric Protection
OnGuard is designed to provide long-lasting protection and will typically withstand approximately four to five professional cleans when the fabric is maintained according to Warwick care instructions.
For ongoing care and performance, professional upholstery cleaning is recommended approximately every two years.
When arranging professional cleaning, advise your cleaner that the fabric has been treated with OnGuard and ensure the fabric is cleaned according to recommended care instructions.
