Terrain Collection x Lustrell Charisma

To celebrate the launch of Terrain, the marketing team took a creative approach to explore the enduring appeal of animal patterning, tactile textures and unexpected colour combinations. Using installation, styling and photography, we transformed four colour pairings into immersive visual narratives. What began as a colour story quickly became a full-scale crafting exercise involving wire sculpting, wrapping objects, every adhesive imaginable, an alarming number of pool noodles and, naturally, an engineer. 

Inspired by Terrain’s fresh take on animal-inspired design, featuring an undulating zebra pattern and an abstract houndstooth with giraffe-inspired markings, each scene offers a unique interpretation of the collection. Terrain’s eclectic palette of deep chocolates, olive-toned greens and earthy neutrals is paired with our signature vinyl range, Lustrell Charisma. The combination creates a distinct contrast between tactile jacquards and smooth vinyl, demonstrating how unexpected pairings can work in harmony.

In collaboration with photographer Marc Buckner, we brought to life four creative personas: the playful optimist, the romantic dreamer, the restless wanderer and the poetic naturalist.

The playful optimist

Peer inside a private moment where creativity and play can be freely expressed in the comfort of home. Terrain and Temba Cocoa bring depth and familiarity with a maximalist edge, their two-toned chocolate palette lending weight and presence to the composition, while Lustrell Charisma Breeze introduces a light and mellow blue that softens the mood. Together, the pairing reflects the growing appeal of duck egg blue and mocha brown, where the coolness of pale blue creates a sense of visual rest and airiness against the richness of chocolate tones, creating a tension between density and softness.

Inspired by the idea of a gentler side to the wild, the scene captures a playful optimist as he builds and curates a world of rounded forms, sculptural foliage and spheres. Together, these elements soften the graphic nature of the animal-inspired patterns, creating a colour story that feels bold, playful and intentionally balanced.

The romantic dreamer

A soft pink stage sets the mood for this contemplative character. A modern interpretation of Cupid, he sits among the clouds where the mythological figure is often depicted, pondering his next union.

This colour story explores the relationship between moss green tones and soft pink, a pairing that sits in productive tension. The visual weight and intricacy of the animal-inspired patterning are softened by the blush accents of Lustrell Charisma Ballet, demonstrating how colour can be used to challenge expectations while maintaining equilibrium. The result feels romantic, expressive and unexpectedly resolved.

Wrapped in Temba Jungle, the generous proportions of the lounge demonstrate how a small-scale pattern can deliver visual interest while maintaining a contemporary take on mid-century design. Cloud-like forms in Terrain Jungle float throughout the scene, reinforcing the romantic narrative, while a handcrafted fringed pendant introduces movement and whimsy, lending a dreamlike quality to the space.

The restful wanderer

Inspired by the vast African landscape, where wildlife roams and ancient trees dot the horizon, this scene captures a lone wanderer at rest. The warmth of sun-baked earth is reflected in the coral backdrop, while the distinctive form of the Umbrella Thorn tree is reimagined in Lustrell Charisma Coral.

Resting beneath its canopy, the wanderer finds refuge amongst Terrain’s abstracted houndstooth pattern, upholstered across rounded discs that mimic clusters of tree foliage. Temba’s zebra design in classic black and white references the surrounding wildlife, appearing across the seating and cushion as a graphic nod to the natural world.

The pairing of vivid coral with high-contrast black and white patterning demonstrates the versatility of a monochromatic base. Echoing the natural colouring of zebra markings, the black and white upholstery provides a familiar foundation for bolder colour, allowing Lustrell Charisma Coral to bring warmth and energy to the scheme. The result is a colour story that feels adventurous and expressive, translating inspiration drawn from travel, landscape and wildlife into a contemporary interior setting.

The poetic naturalist

The warm neutrality of Temba and Terrain Coconut meets the energy of Lustrell Charisma Endive. Set against a lime-green backdrop, the pairing balances organic pattern with soft, natural tones, demonstrating how fresh colour can bring energy to familiar neutrals.

Inspired by the vitality of new growth, the scene follows a modern naturalist immersed in the details of the natural world. Suspended around the figure, Anthurium flowers appear almost as collected specimens, reinforcing the connection between pattern, texture and nature. Temba and Terrain’s design takes on an organic quality when paired with neutrals and fresh green tones, demonstrating how bold design can feel calm, contemporary and considered.
